PETROCHROMIS
TANK
LANDSCAPING
    Frank Schulterbrandt  10/05/2009

Landscaping for the species Petrochromis can be a tricky ordeal. In general the more petrochromis you have In the tank the less landscaping you will need. It is in my opinion that the best way to breed the species petrochromis is to have a ton of petros in the tank.
By having many petros in the tank you could basically landscape the tank any way you wanted to.

If you don’t have the proper stocking level of petrochromis in your tank. You would want a lot of hiding places consisting of caves, plants and rocks throughout  your tank. If you really have a real aggressive petro and is the alpha of the tank you should consider landscaping your petro tank like  diagram 1 . If you don’t have that one real aggressive bully of the tank , then you might want to consider giving a couple of your male petros their own little territory (rock pile) see diagram 2.   Diagram 3 is suggest that you have two males that need their own pile of rocks to mark as their territory.  Finally diagram 4 is to be used when you have many petros or mainly when you have a lot of aggression. Not having any rocks , PVC tubes etc there can be no turf wars , so aggression will be subside rather quickly. You can ad a few rocks like in diagram 3 or possibly diagram 2.  Diagram 4 should also be used when you have too much uncontrollable aggression or possibly reintroducing wounded ,beat up , or outcast fish back to the aquarium.

The best sernario is just to have many petros. This is just a general guide to landscaping your petro tank based on the amount of petros you have stocked your tank with and may require some tinkering with. The same tank and same amount of petros owned by two different hobbyist  may require different landscaping techniques. So good luck and enjoy your petros because they are truly the misunderstood jewels of lake Tanganyika.
